CTOS - Coordinated Turn
Automatic control of heel angle during turns for improved comfort and safety

When turning a boat in planing or semi planning speeds the boat will heel to some extent. CTOS will continuously monitor the rudder position and compensate the heel angle, by automatically positioning the interceptor trim tabs, to insure a safe and comfortable heel angle during any high speed turns. This is very similar to how it works in an aircraft to achieve a perfect turn. Turning ability can also be significantly improved.
Reduced or increased heel angle
Compare to an airplane where the coffee cup will stay on the table even though the airplane is turning. The explanation for this “perfect turn” is that the airplane uses the rudder in combination with its ailerons to produce this so called coordinated flight. With CTOS, we do exactly the same. We use the rudder in combination with the interceptors to produce a coordinated turn! The CTOS takes On board comfort and safety to new levels for the boating industry! The required force is automatically adjusted in relation to rudder position and vessel speed.
Tighter turns
Many boats would benefit from an improved steering capability. With CTOS, the turning rate can be significantly improved in combination with a better control of the heel angles during turning. The turning forces from a rudder or a water jet bucket are limited and the steering force can be improved by adding steering force from the interceptor trim tab.
Maintain Speed
Most boats loose speed when turning. One reason is that the propulsor, rudder or waterjet is deflected from the keel line with reduced forward thrust resulting in lost speed. On top of this, big rudder angles also create more drag. With CTOS, the propulsors, jet buckets or rudders does not need to turn as much to make the same turning radius as the steering force from the interceptor trim tab helps turning the boat. At the same time the lift force controls the heel angle and the hull part that is digging into the water can be reduced. The result is higher speed at the same turning radius.
